Special Issue Information
Global changes regarding soil resources, water resources, climate change, food security, and other criteria specific to contemporary agriculture have led to an intensification of research in agricultural innovations. This special issue will bring together contributions that focus on innovations in soil fertility management and agroecosystem health. This special issue aims to promote applied solutions that go beyond the conventional paradigm of intensive fertilization. In other words, the research disseminated in this issue is oriented toward strategies adapted to pedoclimatic diversity. The articles included in this issue should investigate biofertilizers, microbial consortia, and functional inoculants in stimulating soil biological activity, precision agriculture technologies, nutrient use optimization solutions, and are not limited to these ideas. Also in this special issue, organic amendments, products derived from the circular economy, nature-based solutions, the generation of products that minimize the implications of artificial growth, and all research contributing to the restoration of soil structure, the increase of water retention capacity, plant quality, and the reduction of dependence on synthetic inputs are disseminated. Another direction focuses on interdisciplinary approaches that combine microbiology, soil chemistry, data science, and agroecological modeling to develop indicators associated with soil health. In parallel, the socioeconomic implications of the transition to fertilization systems could be discussed, with an emphasis on the adoption of innovative technologies, implementation barriers, agricultural policy barriers, and sustainability measures necessary to support farmers in this process.
Special Issue Keywords: soil health, sustainable fertilization, nutrient management, bio-fertilizers, agronomy, soil carbon sequestration, food security
